About the Role:
Light-for-the-World is seeking an Internal Auditor to ensure transparency, accountability, and operational efficiency within the organization. This role ensures cost-effective protection of Light-for-the-World assets and involves conducting independent evaluations of financial and operational activities, ensuring compliance with legal and donor requirements, and improving internal controls. The Internal Auditor will play a critical role in safeguarding resources and supporting the organization’s mission.

Your tasks

1. Audit Planning and Execution

  • Develop and implement annual internal audit plans.
  • Conduct risk assessments to identify key operational areas for auditing.
  • Perform financial, operational, and compliance audits aligned with organizational policies and donor requirements.
  • Assess internal controls and recommend improvements.

2. Financial Audits

  • Review financial statements, accounting records, and processes for accuracy and compliance.
  • Ensure efficient utilization of donor funds in line with agreements.

3. Operational Audits

  • Evaluate the effectiveness of operational processes.
  • Ensure resources align with organizational goals.
  • Propose process enhancements for better program delivery.

4. Compliance Audits

  • Verify adherence to legal, regulatory, and donor-specific requirements.
  • Ensure compliance with grant terms, local laws, and other standards.

5. Reporting

  • Prepare comprehensive audit reports detailing findings, risks, and recommendations.
  • Present findings to senior management and the audit committee.
  • Monitor the implementation of corrective actions.

6. Risk Management

  • Identify organizational risks and recommend mitigation strategies.
  • Collaborate with management to design effective internal controls.

7. Fraud Detection and Prevention

  • Investigate potential fraud or fund misappropriation.
  • Develop anti-fraud programs and promote ethical practices among staff.

8. Training and Capacity Building

  • Train staff on internal controls, compliance, and financial best practices.
  • Foster a culture of accountability within the organization.

Your profile

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration, or related fields (Master’s degree or certifications like CPA/ACCA are a plus).
  • Experience:
  • 3–5 years of experience in internal auditing (preferably in the NGO sector).
  • Skills & Knowledge:
  • Strong understanding of internal control frameworks, risk management, and audit methodologies.
  • Familiarity with donor compliance requirements (e.g., USAID, EU, UN).
  • Proficiency in financial management software and audit tools.
  • Attributes:
  • Excellent analytical skills with attention to detail.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal abilities.
  • Comfort around higher management
  • High ethical standards with integrity.
  • Ability to work independently while managing time effectively.
  • Willingness to travel to field offices in sub-Saharan Africa.
