The Austrian Centre for Digital Humanities and Cultural Heritage (ACDH-CH), of the Austrian Academy of Sciences (OeAW), Austria’s leading non-university research institution, is offering a

PHD STUDENT POSITION (F/M/X)
(part-time, 30h per week)

in the project “Arthur Schnitzler – Correspondence With Fellow Writers 3”. The position is limited to the current duration of the project (until April 30th, 2029). The desired starting date is May 01st, 2025.

Your tasks:

  • Transcribe, research and edit correspondence pieces
  • Some light programming
  • Participation in the administration of the project
  • Presentation of results at workshops and conferences
  • Publication of results and development of a concept for a dissertation in the thematic field of the project

Your profile:

  • Masters degree in German literature, comparative literature or history
  • Fluency in German (written and spoken)

  • Accuracy and an independent work attitude
  • Experience with digital editions, especially with handwritten sources (»deutsche Kurrent«)
  • Experience with XML and a programming language
  • Knowledge of Austrian literature and cultural business around 1900

We offer a part-time position for a duration of 48 months. You work closely with the project’s principal investigator in editing correspondences of Schnitzler with, among others, Otto Brahm, Sigmund Freud, Heinrich Mann, Else Plessner, Rainer Maria Rilke, and Stefan Zweig. At the same time, you are expected to advance your PhD in a field related to dealings of the project. We encourage young academics at the start of their career to send in their application.

The annual gross salary is € 37.773,33, according to the collective agreement of the Austrian Academy of Sciences.
