Master student in the field of AOCS/GNC & Flight Dynamics (d/f/m), title of thesis: Enhancement of Spacecraft On-Board Navigation by AOCS-aided GNSS
Job Description:
In order to support the AOCS/GNC & Flight Dynamics team, Airbus Defence and Space is looking for a
Master student in the field of AOCS/GNC & Flight Dynamics (d/f/m), for the thesis: Enhancement of Spacecraft On-Board Navigation by AOCS-aided GNSS
You are looking for a master thesis and want to get to know the work of a spacecraft AOCS engineer? Then apply now! We look forward to you supporting us in the AOCS/GNC & Flight Dynamics department!
-
Location: Friedrichshafen
-
Start: May 2025
-
Duration: 6 months
The AOCS, GNC & Flight Dynamics department is the centre of competence in Airbus for attitude and orbit control systems (AOCS), Guidance/Navigation/Control (GNC), flight dynamics, and control engineering for all kinds of spacecraft. This includes, among others, modelling, design, synthesis, and verification & validation of the AOCS/GNC systems.
As a Master student you will learn about AOCS/GNC, GNSS-navigation on board satellites, optimal estimation techniques such as Kalman filtering, while being part of a transnational team for space missions.
Thesis Topic
The importance of robustness and resilience is increasing for the on-board spacecraft navigation (i.e., state knowledge) such as position, velocity, and time (PVT).
In the frame of this thesis the GNSS receiver PVT-solution shall be enhanced by information available in the Attitude and Orbit Control System (AOCS) such as additional sensor measurements. An integrated navigation solution for sensor data fusion shall be developed, implemented and tested against established solutions.
Your tasks and responsibilities
- Understanding spacecraft on-board GNSS PVT estimation methods
- Understanding AOCS sensor properties and error modelling
- Development and implementation of an integrated navigation concept fusing GNSS and AOCS measurements
- Performance campaign
- Documentation of work
Desired skills and qualifications
- Enrolled as Aerospace Engineering or Cybernetics Master student (m/f/d) or similar field of study
- Very good knowledge of MATLAB / Simulink
- Very good knowledge of estimation theory and ideally practical experience
- GNSS and AOCS sensors
- English is mandatory
- German would be an asset
Your location
At the Airbus site in Friedrichshafen you will be working on innovation where others spend their holidays. Enjoy panoramic views of Lake Constance while having lunch in our canteen. And after work, join one of our many corporate sports groups to go running, sailing or skiing.
