The UFZ
The Helmholtz Centre for Environmental Research (UFZ) with its 1,100 employees has gained an excellent reputation as an international competence centre for environmental sciences. We are part of the largest scientific organisation in Germany, the Helmholtz association. Our mission: Our research seeks to find a balance between social development and the long-term protection of our natural resources.
The job
Companies do not usually take into account the negative impacts of their business practices on nature, nor the fundamental role of biodiversity for future economic revenues. A new EU directive requires companies to disclose the impact of their sourcing, production and trade on biodiversity, as well as the associated risks and opportunities. The “Business for Biodiversity” project is looking for a PostDoc to join a team of natural and social scientists to systematically document and analyze the necessary reporting infrastructure (e.g. data and tools) companies use or have set up to implement the requirements of the EU-standard. The project is conducted in close collaboration with small and medium sized companies from the German food industry and aims to design and implement measures to promote biodiversity in an effective way.
