Hazardous Materials Safety Specialist (all genders)

Your Tasks

We are seeking a technical expert and specialist to ensure business compliance regarding hazardous substances. The successful candidate will play a pivotal role in supporting the classification of dangerous goods substances according to legislation, coordinating with management units, and creating, providing, and reviewing material safety data sheets using ChemGes from the DR Software. Additionally, you will support the business in ensuring compliance with extended SDS according to REACH regulations.


Main Responsibilities:

Hazardous Materials:

  • Create and review material Safety Data Sheets (SDS) worldwide for our finished goods, test samples, and semi-manufactured goods according to different country demands
  • Maintain and update the SDS SharePoint and database (DAM & SAP)
  • Administrate and maintain the ChemGes software, its contract, and connectivity with our internal BSS unit
  • Create and maintain a Haz Mat incompatibility matrix of our raw materials
  • Provide support and orientation to our sites regarding the safe storage, handling, and usage of hazardous materials
  • Review the exposure scenarios of substances regulated by REACH (eSDS) for our EU sites
  • Evaluate all new raw materials as part of the IRMA process, considering safety, health, and environmental aspects
  • Evaluate new product formulas (flashpoint <60C), site allocation, and check for incompatibility with the process

Dangerous Goods:

  • Act as a backup for our Dangerous Goods Specialists and perform and maintain the Dangerous Goods classification in our SAP system
  • Support as a business partner by providing guidance and orientation to sites regarding Dangerous Goods-related topics
  • Occasionally deploy Dangerous Goods trainings

Global Safety:

  • Support with consolidation of leading and lagging indicators
  • Support as super user for the Quentic software, being the key admin for the hazardous substances module
  • Support in defining the mitigation measures needed when dealing with Hazardous substances (ex: PPEs or Process Structure)

Your Profile

  • Educational background as Chemist, Chemical Engineer, Biochemist, Natural Scientist, Environmental Chemistry or Chemical Technician
  • Ideally have 2 years of work experience in the required fields
  • Advantageous to have 2 years in Safety, Health, or Environment areas
  • Basic project management skill
  • English business fluent, German advanced, others advantageous
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills
  • Pragmatic, result-driven, systematic and analytical
